Fall From Horse Is Fatal To
New Jersey Officer
Washington, October 28, 1944 – Lieutenant Colonel William Ronner Slade, aged 27, of Greenwood Lake, New York, who was attached to the Headquarters Army Service Forces here, died at Walter Reed Hospital last night from injuried received when he fell from his horse at Fort Myer, Virginia. The War Department said he had been an investment banker in New York.
The son of Dr. Charles B. Slade and Mrs. Constance A. Slade, whose home is at Greenwood Lake, he was born December 31, 1906 in New York City and was graduated from Princeton in 1928.
Funeral services will be held at the Fort Myer Chapel Tuesday morning and burial will be in Arlington National Cemetery.
Michael Robert Patterson was born in Arlington and is the son of a former officer of the US Army. So it was no wonder that sooner or later his interests drew him to American history and especially to American military history.
