COLONEL WILLIAM J. VOLKMAR
PASADENA, California, March 5, 1901 – Colonel William J. Volkmar, Assistant Adjutant General, United States Army, retired, died in this city yesterday. The remains will be interred at Arlington Cemetery, Washington, D.C.
Colonel Volkmar was appointed Adjutant General by President Cleveland in 1885 and had served consecutively with the Departments of Los Angeles, St. Louis and Denver.
He was retired for disability last June.
Colonel Volkmar was graduated from the Military Academy in 1868, having before his appointment served a short time as a Sergeant in the Civil War.
