William H. Gupton, Private, Co. K, 44th NC Inf., born at Perry’s Mill and resided in Franklin Co., NC where he was by occupation a farmer prior to enlisting in Franklin Co., NC at age 27, Feb 26th, 1862. Captured at Bristoe Station, Va, Oct 14th, 1863. Confined at Old Capitol Prison, Washington, DC. Died in hospital at Washington on April 21, 1864, of diarrhea chronica.
