The Distinguished Service Cross is presented to Vartan Aghababian, Private First Class, U.S. Army, for extraordinary heroism in action northwest of Montfaucon, France, September 28, 1918.
Private first Class Aghababian voluntarily accompanied the first attack wave of the 146th Infantry, seeking out the wounded under terrific enemy machine-gun and artillery fire, carrying them to places of safety and applying first aid until he himself, was seriously wounded. Private First Class Aghababian’s heroic conduct and devotion to his comrades greatly inspired the men of his regiment.
