His wife was Mary Whiting, daughter of Daniel Powers Whiting of Kentucky. Mary and daughter Mary appear in the 1880 census with DP Whiting family who were residing in Washington D.C.
They are both buried in the Whiting plot at Arlington National Cemetery, Section 1, Grave 50.

Michael Robert Patterson was born in Arlington and is the son of a former officer of the US Army. So it was no wonder that sooner or later his interests drew him to American history and especially to American military history.
