Stanhope Bayne-Jones (1888-1970)
Born in New Orleans, Louisiana on November 6, 1888. A.B. from Yale in 1910 and M.D. from John Hopkins in 1914. Professor, then Dean of Yale Medical School 1932-1942. Called to active duty in the Office of the Surgeon General, U.S. Army 1942-1946. Brigadier General in February 1944. Returned to inactive status in 1946. Decorations included the Distinguished Service Medal and three Silver Stars.
Died in Washington on February 20, 1970.

Michael Robert Patterson was born in Arlington and is the son of a former officer of the US Army. So it was no wonder that sooner or later his interests drew him to American history and especially to American military history.
