Sean Michael Ryan (1970)
Robert Stover sent us Sean’s obituary (without a date of the clipping), a shortened
version reads:
Funeral services for a Madison College student found dead in a campus lake in
Harrisonburg Saturday will be held on Wednesday in Arlington National Cemetery.
Ryan, who would have been 18 on Monday, was the son of retired Army Chief Warrant Officer and Mrs. John M. Ryan.
Two Madison students found young Ryan in about two feet of water near the shore of Newman Lake on the Madison campus about 4:30 p.m. Saturday, 21 hours after he was last seen by friends in his dormitory Friday night around 7:30. His death was said by an medical examiner to be an apparent accident.
A graduate of Hammond High School in Alexandria, Virginia, he was an outstanding student and was editor of the school newspaper, a representative to the Junior Class Board and a letterman on the soccer team. He was also a squadron leader in the Civil Air Patrol and was active in “The Second Front,” a military affairs club at Hammond. At Madison College he planned to major in English and he wanted to be a high school teacher, college officials said.

Michael Robert Patterson was born in Arlington and is the son of a former officer of the US Army. So it was no wonder that sooner or later his interests drew him to American history and especially to American military history. Many of his articles can be found on renowned portals like the New York Times, Washingtonpost or Wikipedia.
