HERNDON, Virginia – The Professional Landcare Network (PLANET) announced today that plans are well under way for the upcoming “Renewal & Remembrance at Arlington National Cemetery” on Monday, July 18, 2005 from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Hundreds of landscape, lawn care and tree care companies from across the nation will bring their crews to Arlington National Cemetery to spend the day mulching, pruning, liming, planting, and aerating throughout the entire cemetery. The gift is valued at more than $150,000 in services and work.
“This is an opportunity for us to demonstrate our professional skills and care for an important American monument,” states Phil Fogarty, president of Weed Man, who is also a PLANET member and one of the organizers of the event. There are many PLANET members who have special connections to Arlington National Cemetery either through relatives and friends who are buried there or through their own service.
The day will begin with a ceremony featuring a joint color guard and speaker presentations to dedicate the day of work to those who gave the ultimate sacrifice.
“This is the most significant project that PLANET will do this year,” notes Fogarty. “The natural beauty and quiet grace of this cemetery make it a place that we feel compelled to protect and care take. This is an extremely worthwhile and meaningful project that demonstrates our honor and remembrance of America’s veterans and leaders.”
In addition to the work at Arlington National Cemetery, PLANET members will also be working at historic Congressional Cemetery and giving it much-needed attention, as well.
Following the Renewal & Remembrance project on Tuesday, July 19, PLANET members will begin their annual Legislative Day on the Hill by visiting their congressional leaders on Capitol Hill and speaking with them about issues facing the green industry.
Individuals interested in participating in Legislative Day on the Hill events, including the Renewal & Remembrance Project can download a registration form from the PLANET Web site or by clicking here.
