ESKRIDGE — Richard Albert Waugh, 86, Beloit, formerly of Eskridge, Kansas, died Sunday, July 9, 2000, at home.
He was born October 2, 1913, in Eskridge. He graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy. He was a captain in the Navy before he retired. He lived in Beloit since 1964.
He was a member of the Naval Academy Alumni Association, Retired Officers Association and Veterans of Foreign Wars.
His wife, Scotty Waugh, died in 1985.
Survivors include a brother, C.B. “Barney” Waugh, Green Valley, Ariz.; and a sister, Margaret Ekberg, Big Bear City, Calif.
Services will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at McDonald Funeral Home in Beloit. Burial will be in National Cemetery in Arlington, Virginia.
Captain Waugh will lie in state after 1 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Zion Lutheran Church in Beloit.
Michael Robert Patterson was born in Arlington and is the son of a former officer of the US Army. So it was no wonder that sooner or later his interests drew him to American history and especially to American military history. Many of his articles can be found on renowned portals like the New York Times, Washingtonpost or Wikipedia.
