VIRGINIA BEACH, VIRGINIA – Lieutenant Commander Peter Swinton Asby Jr., 43, died peacefully at Virginia Beach General Hospital with his family by his side on November 1, 1999. Born in Concord, New Hampshire, he was a dedicated Naval officer who was stationed at Presinsurv, Little Creek, Norfolk,Virginia.
Peter was predeceased by his father, Peter Swinton Asby Sr. He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Lee Anne Asby; two daughters, Sarah L. Asby and Katherine N. Asby; a son, Brian S. Asby; his mother, Marjorie Asby; two sisters, Debra Koltookian and Karen Partridge; a brother, William D. Asby; grandmother, Irene Martel; many other close relatives, all of Concord, New Hampshire; and a large circle of friends and co-workers who will always remember him as a loving and caring husband, father and adventurous free spirit who blessed us all with his exciting and charismatic nature and
unpredictable, fun-loving sense of humor and antics.
He was a spark who brightened all our lives and will shine forever in our hearts. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. today at the Chapel of the Good Shepherd, Naval Air Station Oceana, by Chaplain Brown. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial gifts be made to the Diabetes Association of America, New Hampshire Affiliate, 132 Middle Street, Manchester, New Hampshire 03101.
Commander Asby was laid to rest with military honors in Arlington National Cemetery on 28 October 2005.
Michael Robert Patterson was born in Arlington and is the son of a former officer of the US Army. So it was no wonder that sooner or later his interests drew him to American history and especially to American military history.
