Submitted by a loving son, Mal Gormley, March 1998:
My father, Captain Martin E. Gormley, Jr., was a bombardier with the 449th Bomb Group, 15th Air Force, US Army Air Corps, stationed in Taranto, Italy, from June to November, 1944. He completed 50 missions and was awarded the Air Medal and Distinguished Flying Cross.
He was born in Detroit, Michigan, on March 20, 1924 and died July 27, 1966 in New York City.
I am very proud of his courage and leadership in WWII.
Michael Robert Patterson was born in Arlington and is the son of a former officer of the US Army. So it was no wonder that sooner or later his interests drew him to American history and especially to American military history. Many of his articles can be found on renowned portals like the New York Times, Washingtonpost or Wikipedia.
