At the time of the 1880 United States Census he was residing in Washington, D.C. Residing with him were his wife Harriet (Hattie)Crandall, age 27 and born in Alabama; their daughter, Fannie Crandall, age 19 and born in Louisiana; their son, Theodore Crandall, age 9 and born in Alabama; their son, Lee Crandall, age 3 and born in Pennsylvania; Mary Smith, female servant, age 42 and born in Ireland; and Maggie Smith, female nurse, age 19 and born in Pennsylvania.
