Leonard August Olson, Lieuenant Colonel, United States Army (retired), age 93, died peacefully on October 28, 2002 at Inova Fairfax Hospital, Virginia.
Leonard is survived by his wife of 56 years, Helen, of Annandale, Virginia and his four children, Karey J. Starnes of Falls Church, Virginia, Leonard A. Olson Jr. of Dripping Springs, Texas, Jane L. Valentine of St. Petersburg, Florida, Debra A. Silver of Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. Also survived by four grandchildren and five step grandchildren.
Leonard Olson, a distinguished officer served in the U.S. Army for over 20 years. He continued service to his country an additional 20 years as a civil servant. A stalwart member of the community, Leonard was loved by those who knew him and will be missed by all.
The funeral service will be held on Friday, December 6, at 1 p.m. Fort Myer Chapel followed by interment with Full Military Honors at Arlington National Cemetery.
Michael Robert Patterson was born in Arlington and is the son of a former officer of the US Army. So it was no wonder that sooner or later his interests drew him to American history and especially to American military history. Many of his articles can be found on renowned portals like the New York Times, Washingtonpost or Wikipedia.
