Died on April 24, 1998 at his home in Satellite Beach, Florida. At a ceremony in the White House in 1969, the late President Richard M. Nixon personally presented General Cheney with his second star, promoting him to the rank of Major General and officially appointing him as Judge Advocate General of the USAF.
General Cheney was married in 1950 to the former Yvonne Parsons, who moved to the United States from England. Mrs. Cheney died April 10, 1998 in Melbourne, Florida.
He is survived by his two sons, James S. Cheney Jr. of Cocoa Beach, FL, Frederick Kent Cheney of Melbourne Beach, FL and three grandchildren. Memorial service at Arlington National Cemetery on Friday, June 19, 1998 at 9 a.m. Donations may be made to a charity of your choice. Reception to follow at Fort Myer Officers’ Club.
Michael Robert Patterson was born in Arlington and is the son of a former officer of the US Army. So it was no wonder that sooner or later his interests drew him to American history and especially to American military history.
