Born at Washington, D.C. on May 21, 1837, he earned the Medal of Honor while serving aboard the USS Richmond on March 14, 1863 during the Civil War.
He died on April 29, 1917 and was buried in Section 17 of Arlington National Cemetery.
He was also known as “Israel Little” in the Navy.
Michael Robert Patterson was born in Arlington and is the son of a former officer of the US Army.
