“Died at age 68 on January 24, 1993 of cancer at his home in Wilmington, North Carolina.
He enlisted in the Army in 1942 and subsequently served in World War II, the Korean War and the war in Vietnam.
During his career he was awarded the Silver Star, the Bronze Star with 2 oak leaf clusters and Valor Device, the Army Comendation Medal, the Presidential Unit Citation, the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry with Palm, the Combat Infantryman’s Badge with Star and the Parachute Badge.”
He was buried in Section 65 of Arlington National Cemetery on January 29, 1993.
Michael Robert Patterson was born in Arlington and is the son of a former officer of the US Army. So it was no wonder that sooner or later his interests drew him to American history and especially to American military history.
