GENERAL JOSEPH P. TRACY
WASHINGTON, May 22, 1950 – Brigadier General Joseph Powell Tracy, a retired Army officer, died yesterday at Walter Reed Hospital after a brief illness. His age was 75.
General Tracy served in the Army for forty-two years, retiring in 1938. He participated in the Spanish-American War, the Philippine Insurrection and the last World War. In 1930 he was Assistant Commandant of the Army War College and in 1931 and 1932 he was chief of the General Staff’s War Plans Division.
Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Jeanne W. Tracy of Washington, and a son, Colonel Maxwell W. Tracy, U.S.A., retired, of Lexington, Virginia.

Michael Robert Patterson was born in Arlington and is the son of a former officer of the US Army. So it was no wonder that sooner or later his interests drew him to American history and especially to American military history.
