Jay M. Munninghoff, 55, of Memphis, Tennessee, retired Navy Captain after 29 years and managing director of AOD Planning & Analysis for FedEx, died of cancer Sunday at Saint Francis Hospital. Services will be at 10:45 a.m. Thursday at Arlington National Cemetery Chapel with burial in Arlington National Cemetery. Memphis Funeral Home Poplar Chapel has charge.
He was a 1969 graduate of the Naval Academy and former commanding officer of Key West (Florida) Naval Air Station.
Captain Munninghoff, the husband of Janis C. Munninghoff, also leaves a daughter, Amy L. Munninghoff of Coronado, California; a son, James J. Munninghoff of Sunnyvale, California, and two sisters, Martha Munninghoff and Marcia Webb, both of Cincinnati. The family requests that memorials be sent to National Cancer Institution.
Michael Robert Patterson was born in Arlington and is the son of a former officer of the US Army. So it was no wonder that sooner or later his interests drew him to American history and especially to American military history.
