My grandfather, John James Patterson III was an officer in the United States Navy. He graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 1918, I believe the only class to do so in three years because of World War I.He was stationed in China in the early 1920’s. My grandmother and uncle lived in Chefoo, while I presume he was on board a ship. The family story was that he was evacuating refugees on the Yellow River.
