Colonel John H. Carlson, US Army Retired., 76, of the 1100 block of Vera Cruze Court, Gallup, New Mexico, died May 18, 1999, in Virginia Beach, Virginia.
Colonel Carlson was born in Fort Wayne, Indiana. He was a graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point, Class of June 6, 1944. He retired from the United States Army in 1969 as Colonel.
After his retirment Colonel Carlson had a full career with the Civil Service as manager of Nuclear Weapons Testing Division.
Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Jacqueline Cudigan Carlson, two daughters, Kathleen Marie Carlson of Suffolk, Virginia, Terry Elizabeth Carlson of Mountain Home, Idaho; two sons, Michael R. Carlson of Round Rock, Texas, Dennis P. Carlson of Gainesville, Florida; a brother, Col. Vincent P. Carlson of Saratoga, California; five grandchildren, Jonathan Robinson Heard, Patrick Bryan Hear, Mackenzie Reid Carlson, Cameron Michael Carlson and Cleo Elizabeth Carlson.
A graveside service with full military honors will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. June 7, 1999 at Arlington National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Department of Education Diocese of Gallup with benefits the Navajo Children, PO Box 1028, Gallup, NM 87305.
Michael Robert Patterson was born in Arlington and is the son of a former officer of the US Army. So it was no wonder that sooner or later his interests drew him to American history and especially to American military history. Many of his articles can be found on renowned portals like the New York Times, Washingtonpost or Wikipedia.
