PHILADELPHIA, February 17, 1926 – Major John G. Muir, 55, retired Marine Corps officer and banker, died today at his home here. He was a veteran of the Spanish-AmericanWar, the Boxer Rebellion and the Philippine Insurrection. Since he retired from the service twenty years ago he engaged in the banking business.
He is survived by his father, the Rev. J. J. Muir,Washington, Chaplian of the United Sates Senate; a brother, Charles S. Muir, and two sisters- Mrs. Henry S. Polkenhorn and Mrs. Elmer Young – all of Washington.

Michael Robert Patterson was born in Arlington and is the son of a former officer of the US Army. So it was no wonder that sooner or later his interests drew him to American history and especially to American military history.
