CW4 James Charles Goldthorpe now has a marker. Mr. Goldthorpe served in Vietnam but died in 2005 in a helicopter accident not related to his military service. No body was recovered. His memorial service is October 10, 2007.
The Combat Helicopter Pilots Association (CHPA) will be honoring James “Goldie” Goldthorpe at a memorial service on July 2, 2006, beginning at 2:30 p.m. at the Marriott Wardman Park in Washington, D.C. The CHPA has also established The Goldie Fund, which will be used to support the service and assist veterans, particularly helicopter veterans. James Goldthorpe passed away on October 6, 2005.
Goldthorpe served in the Army as an aviator for 30 years, until his retirement in March 2005. Goldthorpe was a founding member of CHPA and an active member of the Vietnam Helicopter Pilots Association. Michael Robert Patterson was born in Arlington and is the son of a former officer of the US Army. So it was no wonder that sooner or later his interests drew him to American history and especially to American military history.
