Justin A. Holmes, Colonel, United States Army Signal Corps (Ret.), age 68, of
Irvington, Virginia, died on July 2, 2002 of brain cancer. The Texas native was on active duty from 1956 to 1980 in Germany, Thailand, Vietnam and the Pentagon.
Awards include the Defense Superior Service Medal, Legion of Merit, Meritorious Service Medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters, Joint Service Commendation Medal and Army Commendation Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster.
Survivors are his wife of 36 years, Xlaudia; daughter, Glenda Empsall; mother, Evelyn; brother, David; two grandsons, two nephews, a niece and a great-nephew.
Interment, with full military honors, Arlington National Cemetery, 3 p.m., Tuesday, August 6, 2002. Memorials may be made to The River Counties Chapter, American Red Cross, PO Box 915, White Stone, Virginia 22578.
Michael Robert Patterson was born in Arlington and is the son of a former officer of the US Army. So it was no wonder that sooner or later his interests drew him to American history and especially to American military history.
