John Ashton Ely was born on 13 December 1920, a son of Major General Hanson Edward Ely, United States Army. He graduated from the United States Military Academy in 1942 and served in World War II and Vietnam. Colonel Ely died on 21 April 2001 at Alexandria, Virginia, and was aid to rest in Arlington National Cemetery. We are currently seeking additional information with regard to the Colonel. Sylvia (nee Klen) Ely age 90 of Alexandria, Virginia, formerly of Gary, Indiana, passed away Thursday, February 23, 2006.
She is survived by two children: Barbara McVeigh of San Diego, California, and John A. (Kay) Ely of Alexandria, Virginia; five grandchildren; a sister, Stephanie C. Montoro of Merrillville; sister-in-law, Mary Klen of Merrillville.
She was preceded in death by husband, John A. Ely and her brother, Rudy Klen.
Mrs. Ely was a member of the Croation Fraternal Lodge #170 and a former employee of the Public Welfare Department in Gary. She was a U.S. Army veteran having served as a Major in World War II. Funeral services will be held in Virginia for the family and she will be laid to rest with full military honors next to her husband in Arlington National Cemetery.

Michael Robert Patterson was born in Arlington and is the son of a former officer of the US Army.
