From a contemporary press report:
Joseph Anthony Bookhamer, 83, died Monday, March 20, 2000, at the Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Centers.
Burial will be in Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Virginia, at a later date.
Bookhamer, a native of Columbus, Ohio, had retired as a lieutenant colonel from the Army and was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War. He was a former military police officer and a member of Disabled American Veterans of Foreign Wars, Military Order of the Purple Heart, Million Dollar Round Table, Paralized Veterans of America and Retired Officers Association.
The family said, “He was a loving husband and father.”
Survivors include his wife, Sadie Marie Bookhamer; two sons, Charles A. Bookhamer, Augusta, and Joseph A. Bookhamer, Columbus; and a daughter, Mary Kathryn Laffoday, Augusta, Georgia.
Michael Robert Patterson was born in Arlington and is the son of a former officer of the US Army. So it was no wonder that sooner or later his interests drew him to American history and especially to American military history. Many of his articles can be found on renowned portals like the New York Times, Washingtonpost or Wikipedia.
