Irving Klepper, 78, a retired Army lieutenant colonel who served as a radio frequency engineer during World War II and the Korean and Vietnam wars, died of cancer August 1, 1998 at Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore, Maryland..
Colonel Klepper, who lived in Severna Park since 1972, served more than 35 years in the Army, retiring in 1976 as deputy director of the Department of Defense’s Electromagnetic Compatibility Analysis Center. He worked the next three years as a senior engineering consultant to defense contractor IITRI in Annapolis.
He was born in Louisville, Kentucky. Over the course of his military career, he served with the Seventh Army in Europe and with the Army Section Signal Military Assistance Advisory Group in Taiwan.
He was a life member of the Amateur Radio Satellite Corp and Society of Wireless Pioneers and a member of the Retired Army Officers Association and the Annapolis chapter of the Military Order of the World Wars.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Catherine Shiach Klepper of Severna Park; two children, Robert Klepper of Saudi Arabia and Jacqueline Shillito of Arlington; a sister; and five grandchildren.

Michael Robert Patterson was born in Arlington and is the son of a former officer of the US Army. So it was no wonder that sooner or later his interests drew him to American history and especially to American military history.
