Henry Oscar Talle – Ensign, United States Navy

Representative from Iowa; born on a farm near Albert Lea, Freeborn County, Minnesota, January 12, 1892; educated in rural schools and Luther Academy, Albert Lea, Minnesota;  was graduated from Luther College, Decorah, Iowa, in 1917; pursued graduate work at University of Minnesota, Boston University, Emerson College, and University of Chicago; during the First World War served in the United States Navy 1917-1919; teacher and superintendent of schools, Rugby and Rolette, North Dakota, in 1919 and 1920; teacher in Luther Academy, Albert Lea, Minnesota, in 1920 and 1921; professor of economics, Luther College, Decorah, Iowa, 1921-1938; treasurer of Luther College 1932-1938; elected as a Republican to the Seventy-sixth and to the nine succeeding Congresses (January 3, 1939-January 3, 1959); unsuccessful candidate for reelection in 1958 to the Eighty-sixth Congress; assistant administrator for program policy of the Housing and Home Finance Agency, Washington, D.C., from February 2, 1959, to February 19, 1961; resided in Chevy Chase, Md., until his death in Washington, D.C., March 14, 1969; interment in Arlington National Cemetery.
