HOLLEY, HORACE CLINTON, SR. “CLINT”
CAPTAIN, USN (Ret.)
Horace Clinton Holley, Sr., Captain, United States Navy (Retired) of Annandale, Virginia, died on Tuesday, January 21, 2003. He was the beloved husband of Lula C. Holley; the loving father of Horace Clinton Holley, Jr., Norman Keith Holley, Charles Craig Holley and Charlene Holley Smith. He was the devoted grandfather of Alex and Lauren Smith and Emily and Katelyn Holley. He leaves three sisters, Marie Simmmons, Charlotte Snow and Betty Wald. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Captain Holley was born in Pelham, Georgia on June 4, 1920. He enlisted in the United Staes Navy on January 18, 1939 as an Apprentice Seaman and advanced through each enlisted rate. In 1947, he was commissioned as Ensign. He served on nine different ships in his 35-1/2 years career in the Navy.
He retired on July 1, 1974 and taught Criminal Justice at Northern Virginia Community College for 26 years, retiring in 2000.
Friends may call at the Friendship United Methodist Church, 3527 Gallows Rd., Falls Church, VA on Tuesday, February 4 from 7:30 to 9 p.m., where services will be held on Wednesday, February 5 at 10 a.m.
Interment Arlington National Cemetery with full military honors at 3 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Friendship United Methodist Church or the Halquist Memorial Inpatient Hospice Center, 4715 N. 15th St., Arlington, VA 22205. Arrangements by Advent Funeral Services.
Michael Robert Patterson was born in Arlington and is the son of a former officer of the US Army. So it was no wonder that sooner or later his interests drew him to American history and especially to American military history.
