Hollis Chenery Clark was a graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point, Class of 1891. His initial duty assignment was with the 23rd Infantry. As a First Lieutenant in 1898, Clark was assigned to the 10th Infantry. Later in 1898, Clark transferred to the 25th Infantry. His last active duty assignment was as a Captain with the 24th Infantry in 1900. Clark retired from military service in 1901.
After leaving the Army, Clark served for a year as the Military Science and Tactics and Instructor at the University of Nevada at the salery of $300 for the year.
