Graveside services for former Vacaville,California, resident George R. Kennedy, 77, will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Arlington National Cemetery in Washington, D.C.
Mr. Kennedy died March 1, 1998, at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield, Missouri.
Born in Holyoke, Massachusetts, he graduated from Holyoke High School and Boston College. He also lived in Grass Valley and Penn Valley for several years.
He was a retired Army Captain and served 23 years in the Army and the Army Air Corps during World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam conflict. He retired in 1971.
After retiring, he received two master’s degrees at the University of Nevada, Reno. He worked as a security officer at MGM Grand Hotel Casino in Reno for eight years.
He is survived by his wife, Cleo (Spaulding) Kennedy; son, Don Gentino of Carson City, Nev.; daughters, Gail Garrido of Colfax and Carol Gentine Wilson of Penn Valley; sister, Katherine Moriarty of Holyoke; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, James and Jean Spaulding of Vacaville; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
Michael Robert Patterson was born in Arlington and is the son of a former officer of the US Army. So it was no wonder that sooner or later his interests drew him to American history and especially to American military history. Many of his articles can be found on renowned portals like the New York Times, Washingtonpost or Wikipedia.
