Brevetted Captain, 2 July 1863 and Major, 13 March 1865, for gallant and meritorious service in the battle of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania.
This has been confirmed as the father of George Faber Downey, Brigadier General, United States Army, and the grandfather of George Faber Downey, Jr, Captain, United States Army. They are buried in adjacent sites in Arlington National Cemetery.

Michael Robert Patterson was born in Arlington and is the son of a former officer of the US Army.
