Frank Winston Coe, initially the Chief of Staff of the 1st Division, was promoted in August 1917 and took command of the 1st Separate Brigade, Coast Artillery and the Railway Artillery Reserve of the American Expeditionary Force (AEF).
In May 1918 he returned to Washington to become Chief of Coast Artillery, a position he held until his retirement as a Major General in March 1926.
Major General Frank Winston Coe and Martha Sedgwick Pratt were married on 12 September 1923.
