DR. F. M. MUNSON, MARYLAND HEALTH OFFICER IS CALLED
ATLANTA, Georgia, December 22, 1927 – News was received in Atlanta Wednesday of the death recently in La Plata, Maryland of Dr. Francis M. Munson, Deputy State Health Officer for Charles and St. Mary’s Counties, Maryland, and husband of the former Miss Vivian Hadley, whose mother, Mrs. C. T. Hadley lived at 192 Luckie Street, Atlanta.
Dr. Munson was killed in an automobile accident, according to information received here. Funeral services were held in Washington, D.C. and he was buried in Arlington Cemetery with full military rites and service.
Dr. Munson was formerly a surgeon in the Navy, have been retired with the rank of Lieutenant Commander in 1915, following an illness contracted after five years’ service in the Philippines.
He was a graduate of St. John’s College, Annapolis, Maryland, and also of the University of Pennsylvania and Yale, where he received a degree of doctor of public health. He was also a graduate of the United States Medical School.

Michael Robert Patterson was born in Arlington and is the son of a former officer of the US Army. So it was no wonder that sooner or later his interests drew him to American history and especially to American military history.
