Died on January 16, 1999, eldest son of Martha Grenfell and the late Eugene E. Lindsey, Lieutenant Commander, United States Navy and stepson of the late Elton W. Grenfell, Vice Admiral, United States Navy. He is also survived by his wife, Beth; children, Eugene ”Skip”, Doug and Ann; grandchildren, Jackie, Lauren, Andrew, Collin, Eric, Nolan and Grant; sisters, Mary Colby, Elizabeth Grenfell and Jane Duffey; and brother, Steve Grenfell.
A distinguished Naval officer and 1958 Naval Academy graduate, his career as a submarine officer included duties on the USS James Monroe, USS Dolphin, USS Holland and base Commander, Sasebo, Japan. He retired in 1984 and was the founder and president of 21st Century coatings. Family and friends are invited to his burial at Arlington National Cemetery, Monday, February 1, 1999 at 3 p.m. Memorial service and reception at 4 p.m., Grace Episcopal Church, Alexandria, VA. In lieu of flowers, donations to be made to the American Cancer Society.
Michael Robert Patterson was born in Arlington and is the son of a former officer of the US Army. So it was no wonder that sooner or later his interests drew him to American history and especially to American military history. Many of his articles can be found on renowned portals like the New York Times, Washingtonpost or Wikipedia.
