While not much information is currently available concerning Colonel Elkins, he certainly deserves a place of remembrance here.
He was a career Army officer who died in January 1998 and who was buried with full military honors in Section 64 of Arlington National Cemetery.
During his career, Colonel Elkins was awarded three (3) Silver Stars and two (2) Purple Heart Medals for injuries sustained in combat.

Michael Robert Patterson was born in Arlington and is the son of a former officer of the US Army. So it was no wonder that sooner or later his interests drew him to American history and especially to American military history.
