Services will be held for Colonel Donald T. Ruby, Friday, April 9, 1999 at 9 a.m. at Arlington National Cemetery with full military honors. Colonel Ruby died December 25, 1998 at age 83. He is survived by his spouse, Hildegard Ruby of Walnut Creek, CA and his daughter, Lyn O. Ruby of Washington, DC.
Colonel Ruby, a native of Brooklyn, New York, lived in Walnut Creek for 21 years. He attended Colgate University of Hamilton, NY and University of Virginia Law School, as well as George Washington University. He was a member of the State Bar of New York and the District of Columbia.
He enlisted in the US Army in 1942 and served in World War II. In the Anzio Beach conflict, he was taken prisoner. He served 24 years in the military and following his retirement, he became legal advisor to various governmental organizations, including branches of NATO and other subordinate groups. He enjoyed travel, golf and reading.

Michael Robert Patterson was born in Arlington and is the son of a former officer of the US Army. So it was no wonder that sooner or later his interests drew him to American history and especially to American military history.
