Virginia Beach, Virginia: Lieutenant Colonel David “Bub” Midgett, U.S. Army retired, 78, of the 1100 block of Sycamore Road, died June 8, 2000, in a local hospital.
A native of Ocean View, “The Garden Spot of Virginia,” Colonel Midgett graduated from Fork Union Military Academy. He retired from the U.S. Army, Airborne Infantry, after 21 years of service and from the Norfolk District Corp. of Engineers after 18 years of service.
Colonel Midgett was a member of the Khedive Temple.
Survivors include his wife, Jan E. Midgett; a daughter, Deirdre Cook and her husband, Homer; a son, David P. Midgett III and his wife, Jennifer, all of Norfolk; and three grandchildren, Kelley, Christopher and Evin Midgett.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 13, at H.D. Oliver Funeral Apartments, Laskin Road Chapel, by the Rev. Roderick McRae. The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home. Interment will be at Arlington National Cemetery on June 21 at 11 a.m. with full military honors.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to a charity of choice.
Michael Robert Patterson was born in Arlington and is the son of a former officer of the US Army. So it was no wonder that sooner or later his interests drew him to American history and especially to American military history. Many of his articles can be found on renowned portals like the New York Times, Washingtonpost or Wikipedia.
