DANIEL F. CLEARY
CHICAGO, Illinois, December 5, 1953, Daniel F. Cleary of Washington and Chicago, Chairman of the War Claims Commission since 1949, died today of a heart ailment at the age of 43.
Mr. Cleary, who was attorney for the War Veterans Administration in Washington from 1946 to 1949, served as a Major in the Army in World War II. He was a graduate of Chicago’s Loyola University.
Funeral services will be held in Blessed Sacrament Roman Catholic Church in Washington, Wednesday, with burial in Arlington National Cemetery.
Survivors include the widow, Mrs. Gertrude Cleary, and three children.

Michael Robert Patterson was born in Arlington and is the son of a former officer of the US Army. So it was no wonder that sooner or later his interests drew him to American history and especially to American military history.
