Donald Eugene Lovell, 72, of Charleston, a retired Navy commander, died Sunday at his residence. The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in Stuhr’s West Ashley Chapel. Burial will be later in Arlington National Cemetery near Washington, D.C.
Mr. Lovell was born in Solvay, New York, a son of Harry Lovell and Elizabeth Munch Lovell. He was a member of the U.S. Naval Academy Alumni Association, the Military Order of World Wars, the Navy League, the Retired Officers Association and St. Andrews Rotary Club. He was Episcopalian.
Surviving are his wife, Regina Causey Lovell; and a sister, Harriet E. Curtis of Phoenix; 11 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Michael Robert Patterson was born in Arlington and is the son of a former officer of the US Army. So it was no wonder that sooner or later his interests drew him to American history and especially to American military history. Many of his articles can be found on renowned portals like the New York Times, Washingtonpost or Wikipedia.
