David Burton Griffin, age 87, of Sterling, Virginia, died on Monday, January 26, 2004, following a massive stroke at Loudoun Hospital Center in Leesburg, Virginia.
Born on November 16, 1916 in Garden City, Louisiana, to the late David B., Sr. and Florence Boyle Griffin. He grew up in Memphis, Tennessee, Louisville, Kentucky, and Washington, D.C.
David attended Hargrave Military Academy in Chatham, Virginia. Upon graduating from the University of Virginia in 1940, he entered the United States Navy. He served in World War II and the Korean War.
Following a brief career in the Navy, he worked for Monroe Business Machines and later joined theVictor Comptometer Corporation from where he retired in 1975 after nearly 17 years.
David was a member at Fort Belvoir, where he played golf almost daily until he was
nearly 80 years old. He was also an avid reader.
David was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred, of 36 years and his brother, Beverly M. Griffin. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Linda G. and Alan E. Posey and two grandchildren, Kevin Alan Posey and Alyson Lee Posey, all of Herndon, Virginia
Funeral services with full military honors will be held on Friday, March 5 at 11 a.m. at Fort Myer Chapel at Arlington National Cemetery, where interment will immediately follow. The family suggests that memorial contributions may be made to the Loudoun Hospital Center, 44045 Riverside Pkwy., Leesburg, Virginia 20176.

Michael Robert Patterson was born in Arlington and is the son of a former officer of the US Army. So it was no wonder that sooner or later his interests drew him to American history and especially to American military history.
