Born in 1897, he graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 1920. He is yet another member of the famous Wilkes family.
He died in 1966 and was buried in Section 2 of Arlington National Cemetery. His two wives, Mary Glen Wilkes and May Latta Wilkes are buried with him.
Nearby are buried Rear Admiral Charles Wilkes (1798-1877) and Lieutenant (jg) Gilbert Wilkes III.

Michael Robert Patterson was born in Arlington and is the son of a former officer of the US Army.
