A career Army officer, he was assigned to duty with the Government Section, General Headquarters, Supreme Commander, Allied Powers, Tokyo, Japan. He had served in World War I and World War II and in Korea. He landed with General Douglas MacArthur at Leyte in the retaking of the Philippines (“I Shall Return”). He was very highly decorated.
He died on March 21, 1969 and is buried in Section 1 of Arlington National Cemetery. His private memorial there reads:
