Clayton M. Simmers,borh 18 May 1878 to Robert May Simmers and Mary Elizabeth Jones) married Mary Proctor after his first wife, Maude Rogers passed away.
Clayton died in Veterans Hospital, Martinsburg, West Virginia, 18 December 1965
He is buried in Arlington National Cemetery.
His education consisted of Lehigh University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
He graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy – Annapolis, MD in 1902. He received his Master’s Degree in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering.
He received the Legion of Merit Medal.
He was Promoted to Captain in the U.S. Navy on August 27, 1922.
He retired from the Navy on January 15, 1946.
His apparent son, Clayton Rogers Simmers, Captain, United States Navy, is also buried in Arlington National Cemetery.

Michael Robert Patterson was born in Arlington and is the son of a former officer of the US Army. So it was no wonder that sooner or later his interests drew him to American history and especially to American military history.
