Born at Oshwa, Ontario, Canada, November 16, 1889, he was killed in the line of duty at Ocotal, Nicaragua, July 27, 1929. He is buried in Section 7 of Arlington National Cemetery.
His wife, Gladys Leona Knight (March 23, 1895-February 8, 1990), never remarried and lived for sixty-one years after her hero was killed. She now lies with him.

Michael Robert Patterson was born in Arlington and is the son of a former officer of the US Army.
