Charles Curtis MacConnell was born on July 4, 1840 in Pittsburgh, Allegheny County
Pennsylvania, and died on August 4, 1908 at Narragansett, Washington County
Rhode Island.
During the Civil War he served as a Lieutenant with Battery I, 5th United States Artillery, “Weed’s Battery”.
He subsequently remain in the Army and retired as a Captain in 1883.
He was buried with full military honors in Arlington National Cemetery.
Michael Robert Patterson was born in Arlington and is the son of a former officer of the US Army. So it was no wonder that sooner or later his interests drew him to American history and especially to American military history.
