Bernard W. Streeter – Sergeant, United States Army Air Forces

From a contemporary press report:

Bernard W. Streeter, 77, who operated 27 Arby’s restaurants in Virginia, Maryland and New York state, died of cancer January 26, 2003 at his home in Clifton, Virginia.

He was a native of Michigan City, Indiana, who served in the Army Air Forces in Europe during World War II. His honors included an Air Medal.

He attended Purdue University before purchasing his first restaurant in 1948, in New Carlisle, Indiana. He became an early McDonald’s franchiser in Cleveland in 1960 and moved to McLean eight years later.

He operated Arby’s in Springfield, Rockville, the Landmark neighborhood, Upper Marlboro, Alexandria, Great Falls, Beltsville and Jessup. He was a founder and president of the Arby’s Franchise Association and a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church in Fairfax and the National Rifle Association.

Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Patricia Streeter of Clifton; three children, Patrice Tibado of Frostproof, Florida, Winston Streeter of Goldvein, Virginia, and Trevor Streeter of Rochester, New York; and 10 grandchildren.

On January 26, 2003 at his residence. BERNARD W. STREETER beloved husband of 51 years of Patricia Streeter; loving father of Patrice Tibado of Frostproof, Florida; Winston Streeter of Goldvein, Virginia, and Trevor Streeter of Rochester, New York. Cherished brother of Collette Meyer of New Carlisle, Indiana, and Nancy Suter of Ft. Wayne, Indiana. Devoted grandfather of Austin, Abby, Augusta, Charlotte, Rebekah, Robert Lee, Jefferson, Shelby, Victoria and Marnie Streeter. Mr. Streeter was one of the Founders and a past President of the Arby’s Franchise Association. He was a life member of the NRA and was a Staff Sergeant during World War II serving in the Army Air Corps as a B-17 Gunner.

A Memorial service will be held Saturday, February 1 at 11 a.m. in Bethlehem Baptist Church, 4601 West Ox Rd., Fairfax, Virginia. Inurnment at a later date in Arlington National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice of Northern Virginia.
