MATTHEWS, North Carolina — Retired Marine Corps Colonel Randolph Carter Berkeley Jr., 87, of Port Royal, died Monday, November 17, 2003, at Carrington Place in Matthews, North Carolina.
Services and burial will be at 1 p.m., Tuesday, December 30, 2003, at the Fort Myer Chapel, Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Virginia.
Colonel Berkeley was born February 14, 1916, in Guam, a son of Randolph Carter Berkeley and Bessie Bancroft Berkeley.
He was a graduate of the Naval Academy with a masters degree in Political Science. He served as an aviator in the Marine Corps, retiring after 27 years of service. He married the former Ruth Gates on November 26, 1942.
He was preceded in death by his wife.
Survivors include three children, Randolph Carter Berkeley III, Phillip Boyd Berkeley and Janet Berkeley Johnson; and three grandchildren.
