Anthony M. Wagner – Command Sergeant Major, United States Army

Anthony M. “Tony” Wagner, Command Sergeant Major, United States Army (retired) of Melbourne, Florida, died January 6, 2004 at Holmes Regional Medical Center.

A 32-year resident of Melbourne, he was born in Coplay, Pennsylvania. He entered the U.S. Army in 1933 and served in WWII, Korea and Vietnam. His over 33 years of service included tours of duty in Japan and Panama. His military awards included the Legion of Merit and the Bronze Star medal.

In Melbourne, he was a member of the Elks Lodge #1744 and received the honor of “Elk of the Year” in 1995-96 and 1998-99. He was a past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus Fr. Gabriel Council 3746 and Faithful Navigator in the K of C 4th Degree. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 81.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Stella; a son, Anthony L. Wagner of Fort Washington, Maryland; a daughter, Susan Wagner of Gainesville, Florida; a daughter-in-law, Patricia Wagner of Fort Washington, Maryland; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Burial services will be at Arlington National Cemetery on February 4 at 8:45 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Heart Association or the Brevard County Humane Society. Arrangements by South Brevard Funeral Home, Melbourne, FloridaL 321-724-2222.

Michael Robert Patterson was born in Arlington and is the son of a former officer of the US Army.
