From a contemporary press report:
Alexander Nicholas Dukas, 77, a retired Army lieutenant colonel who served in intelligence assignments, died of a blood disorder April 4, 2001, at Mount Vernon Hospital. He lived in Alexandria, Virginia.
Colonel Dukas, a native of New York, served 23 years before retiring from active duty in 1964 while posted at Fort Meade, which at that time was Second Army headquarters.
During World War II, he was assigned to the Office of Strategic Services and sent to China, where he led a guerrilla team against Japanese forces, infiltrated enemy territory and established resistance groups.
He later served in the occupation forces in Germany and Japan.
He graduated with a degree in history from the University of Maryland and attended Sophia University in Tokyo.
In retirement, he worked for the Defense Department as a civilian research and logistics analyst until the mid-1980s.
Survivors include his wife, Anni-Edith Dukas of Alexandria; two children, Karin Schellhorn of Virginia Beach and Philip A. Dukas of Columbus, Ohio; and four grandchildren.

Michael Robert Patterson was born in Arlington and is the son of a former officer of the US Army. So it was no wonder that sooner or later his interests drew him to American history and especially to American military history.
