Alvin Carl Jensen – Colonel, United States Army

Alvin Carl Jensen, 78, a retired Army colonel who later became an associate dean and professor at George Washington University, died of cancer September 10, 1999 at home in Warrenton, Virginia.

Colonel Jensen, who had lived in this area since 1958, was born in North Lake, Wisconsin. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin at Whitewater and took a master’s degree and a doctorate in education at GWU.

He began his military career in 1941 and served in the Signal Corps in Africa and Europe during World War II. He also served in the Korean War. His career included duty on Okinawa and graduation from the Army War College and the Command and General Staff College. In 1970, he retired from the Army after having served on the staff of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

On his military retirement, Colonel Jensen joined the GWU faculty. He retired in 1986.

He was a member of Greenwich Presbyterian Church in Nokesville.

Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Marilyn S. Jensen of Warrenton; two children, Allyn J. Faryniasz of Guam and Peter S. Jensen of Centreville; a twin sister, Alice M. Jensen of Milwaukee; and a grandson.

Jensen; daughter and son-in-law, Allyn Mary and Kirk Faryniasz of Yigo, Guam and son and daughter-in-law, Peter S. and Teresa Jensen of Centreville, VA. Also survived by a sister, Alice M. Jensen of Milwaukee, WI and a grandson, Robert Jensen. A memorial service will be held at the Old Post Chapel, Ft. Myer on Tuesday, September 21, 1999 at 9 a.m. with inurnment in the Arlington National Cemetery Columbarium. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the World War II Memorial Project, 2300 Clarendon Blvd., Suite 501, Arlington, VA 22201.
